Key benefits
The Keppel Seghers process is unique in that:
- the vertical arrangement of the dryers results in a small footprint, minimising the ecological and visual impact;
- the pellet coating process produces a higher quality product readily able to be handled, which can be transported and stored for long periods of time without product deterioration;
- biosolids particles grow layer by layer, allowing the pellet to become hard and ensuring complete treatment to consistently achieve a T1 quality product;
- the one step drying and pelletising process minimises the complexity of plant interfaces, ensuring both energy efficiency and integration of design;
- high efficiency heat exchange ensures maximum energy efficiency, hence reducing costs and minimising greenhouse gas emissions;
- it has low electrical consumption for a drying process due to the gravitation aided biosolids movement, hence saving energy and costs;
- the indirect drying process is inherently safe;
- the process is also unique due to the low volume of dust and odorous gas generated by the drying process which removes and destroys all odorous compounds; and
- the drying technology is able to use recycled water from the Black Rock Water Treatment Plant and return that water to the existing plant.
